Sugar skulls and sunflowers

Laura knew exactly what she wanted; Sugar skulls, rainbows and for each of her bridesmaids to wear something different. I’m not sure whether she’d hunted us down to come and see us at Great Northern Wedding Show or whether it was a happy coincidence that our paths crossed at that fair, but it was one of those easy conversations that quickly revealed we were a perfect for for each other… Laura: I’m looking for a tea length wedding dress but with proper frothy petticoats… Me: like these? Laura: yes, and I want my wedding dress to have loads of colour and maybe, somehow, have sugar skulls incorporated in it? Me: sure thing, we can embroider traditional sugar skull designs on your dress in any colours you want *tries not to jump up and down* Laura: and what about bridesmaids, I want them all different Me: no problem, we can do different colours, styles, anything really Laura: OK, can I make an appointment Me: *does a little dance* That was it, decision made… You should have seen our excitement as we worked out the Dia de los Muertos embroideries, chose colours and other design details. And I don’t think we’ve ever Continue Reading →

Lizzie + Gareth at Comlongon Castle in Dumfries

We  first met Lizzie and her mum at a wedding fair at Hoghton Tower. I remember talking to Lizzie as they had come to the wedding fair specifically to check us out and booked for a consultation there and then (this is a great way to come and see what we do without having to make an appointment. Check out our events section to see where we are going to be next). We loved every minute of our fittings with Lizzie and her entourage. We were able to schedule appointments midweek (which are inevitably less pressured than Saturdays) so it felt more like hanging out than anything else. Lizzie chose to combine various ideas from several of our designs for her wedding dress and added her own twist to make it all her own. She chose a champagne duchess satin with the palest gold tulle overlay and is one of our trend setting brides opting for a high-low hem (the best way to show off those Charlotte Mills shoes AND rock a train) and added a flash of that gorgeous pillar-box red to her petticoats. Lizzie also added strings of crystals and ivory and blush pearls to the back of Continue Reading →

Bev and Bryn’s red and black zebra infused wedding

We are always saying that all our brides are individual. Everyone’s style and influences are different and we never make the same dress twice. That said we do see trends; similar design elements or similar colour themes. For us though, when Bev was describing what she wanted for her wedding and her bridesmaids dresses all we could say was YES! 6 bridesmaids, all with a different style, all in red, black and white with elements of Zebra print… the ideas immediately started to flow! (and we were doubly excited to find out our good friends Zoe and Liam at ZT Photography were capturing their day… see the full wedding here) We worked with Bev and the girls to design and create 6 individual bridesmaids dresses; 2 adult bridesmaids dresses, 2 older teen bridesmaids and 2 flower girls. All wanting to express their personality and tailor the design to their preferences. Here are some more images from the day courtesy of ZT Photography:
